General Motors India has registered an 11% growth in sales in November 2006 as compared to the same period last year. It sold 2554 units in November as against 2303 units during the corresponding period last year. The November sales comprise of 1651 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 602 units of Chevrolet Aveo and 301 units of Chevrolet Optra.
GM India sales during the January to November 2006 period were 33240 units as compared to 28674 units during the same period last year, registering a growth of 16% on a YTD basis.
Mr. P. Balendran, Vice President, General Motors India, said, “The sales figure for all our carlines have been to our satisfaction as we have maintained steady growth and have been able to meet our expected volume levels. This year has been eventful for GM India as we have launched the Chevrolet Aveo and the Chevrolet SRV, and in the near future we shall be launching the Chevrolet U-VA.”
Gearing up for a major ramp up, General Motors India’s Halol facility in Gujarat is undergoing an expansion drive to enhance its capacity to 85,000 units by the end of this year to cater to the increased market demand for Chevrolet brand of vehicles.
As already reported, GM India has recently announced the ground breaking ceremony for their new manufacturing facility at Talegaon in Maharashtra with an initial annual production capacity of 140,000 vehicles. The plant is expected to be completed within 20 months, with start of production scheduled for the third quarter of 2008.
To enhance the customer experience, GM India is expanding its dealership network this year from the present 91 sales points to 110 sales points. Two new parts distribution centres have also been set up this year in Maharashtra and Delhi to supplement existing centres in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
GM India is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation. Besides the Chevrolet Optra, GM India manufactures the Chevrolet Tavera, Chevrolet SRV and Chevrolet Aveo at its state-of-the-art facility in Halol, Gujarat.
