General Motors India has registered an impressive growth of 87% in sales during July 2007 as compared to the corresponding period last year. It sold 4570 units in July 2007 as against 2450 units sold in July last year. The July 2007 sales comprise of 1601 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 1119 units of Chevrolet Aveo, 450 units of Chevrolet Optra and 1400 units of the mini car Chevrolet Spark.
Upbeat on such an impressive performance, Mr. Ankush Arora, Vice President - Marketing, Sales and Aftersales, GM India said, “The year 2007 so far has been a remarkable and wonderful period with all the recently launched cars receiving rave reviews from the market and growing acceptance from customers. The Chevrolet Spark has been rated as the best choice in its category by the leading auto experts in the country. The recently launched Chevrolet Optra Magnum TCDi diesel sedan is also making serious inroads into its segment. Its best in class performance has captured the attention of experts, who have proclaimed it as the most powerful luxury car in its price band. This is an encouraging sign for GM India and a testimony to the fact that our flagship brand Chevrolet has been well accepted by the market.”

GM India has embarked on a slew of unique marketing initiatives to promote the brand Chevrolet and such initiatives will definitely supplement its primary objective of enhancing customers’ delight “, added Mr. Arora.
Gearing up for a major drive to grab 10% market share by 2010, General Motors India’s Halol facility has enhanced its capacity to 85,000 units to cater to the increased market demand for Chevrolet brand of vehicles. Work on GM India’s new manufacturing facility at Talegaon in Maharashtra is also in full swing and it is expected to start commercial production at the new plant by end of next year. The plant when completed will have an annual production capacity of 140,000 vehicles taking the total capacity to 2, 25,000 units per annum by the end of next year.
