Riding high on the success of the popular Chevrolet brand, General Motors India has registered an impressive growth of 43% in sales in June 2007 as compared to the corresponding period last year. It sold 4779 units in June 2007 as against 3346 units sold in June last year. The June 2007 sales comprise of 1550 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 1227 units of Chevrolet Aveo, 498 units of Chevrolet Optra and 1504 units of Chevrolet Spark which was launched recently.
“With the ever increasing market demand of the popular Chevrolet brand, GM India has been registering a consistent surge in the monthly sales. The sales figure of each of the carlines is a clear indication of the increasing market acceptance and our ability to live up to our customers expectation, “said Mr. P.Balendran, Vice President, GM India.
General Motors India recently launched the Chevrolet Optra Magnum TCDi diesel sedan, the most powerful luxury car in its price band. Mr. Balendran said “The Optra Magnum is the latest one to join the Chevrolet bandwagon and we are pleased to see the initial market response. Also our mini car Spark has been receiving rave reviews in the market and it’s making serious inroads into the small car segment.”
Gearing up for a major drive to grab 10% market share by 2010, General Motors India’s Halol facility has enhanced its capacity to 85,000 units to cater to the increased market demand for Chevrolet brand of vehicles. Work on GM India’s new manufacturing facility at Talegaon in Maharashtra is also in full swing and it is expected to start commercial production at the new plant by end of next year. The plant when completed will have an annual production capacity of 140,000 vehicles taking the total capacity to 2, 25,000 units per annum by the end of next year.
GM India is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors Corp. In addition to the Chevrolet Spark, GM India also manufactures the Chevrolet Tavera, Chevrolet Optra, Chevrolet Aveo, Chevrolet Aveo U-VA and Chevrolet Optra SRV at its facility in Halol, Gujarat.
