GM India October 2006 sales up by 12%

General Motors India has registered a 12% growth in sales in October 2006 as compared to the same period last year. It sold 3153 units in October as against 2829 units during the  corresponding period last year. The October sales comprise of 2011 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 902 units of Chevrolet Aveo and 240 units of Chevrolet Optra.

 

GM India sales during the January to October 2006 period were 30686 units as compared to 26371 units during the same period last year, registering a growth of over 16% on a YTD basis.

 

Mr. P. Balendran, Vice President, General Motors India, said, "The sales figure for all our carlines have been very encouraging during the month of October 2006. We have maintained our pace during the festive season and have been able to meet our expected volume levels."

 

Gearing up for a major ramp up, General Motors India's Halol facility in Gujarat is undergoing an expansion drive to enhance its capacity to 85,000 units by the end of this year to cater to the increased market demand for Chevrolet brand of vehicles.

 

As already reported, GM India has announced the setting up of their new manufacturing facility at Talegaon in Maharashtra with an initial annual production capacity of 140,000 vehicles. The plant is expected to be completed within 20 months, with start of production scheduled for the third quarter of 2008.

 

To enhance the customer experience, GM India is expanding its dealership network this year from the present 89 sales points to 110 sales points.  Two new parts distribution centres have also been set up this year in Maharashtra and Delhi to supplement existing centres in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.

 

GM India is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation.  Besides the Chevrolet Optra, GM India manufactures the Chevrolet Tavera, Chevrolet SRV and Chevrolet Aveo at its state-of-the-art facility in Halol, Gujarat.
