General Motors India has registered an 81% growth in sales in February 2007 as compared to the corresponding period last year. It sold 3087 units in February 2007 as against 1709 units during the corresponding period last year. The February 2007 sales comprise of 1801 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 1085 units of Chevrolet Aveo / U-VA and 201 units of Chevrolet Optra. Commenting on the impressive performance, Mr. P. Balendran, Vice President, GM India said "The Chevrolet carlines have consistently registered increasing sales and is fast emerging as the best choice in each of its respective segments in terms of styling, performance, value proposition and other product attributes." Gearing up for a major expansion, General Motors India's Halol facility in Gujarat is undergoing an expansion drive to enhance its capacity to 85,000 units to cater to the increased market demand for Chevrolet brand of vehicles. Work on GM India's new manufacturing facility at Talegaon in Maharashtra is currently on and is expected to be operational by end of next year. The plant when completed will have an annual production capacity of 140,000 vehicles. GM India is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation. Besides the Chevrolet Optra, GM India manufactures the Chevrolet Tavera, Chevrolet SRV, Chevrolet Aveo U-VA and the Chevrolet Aveo at its state-of-the-art facility in Halol, Gujarat.
