Geodesic Information Systems Limited, a leading provider of award-winning mobile and desktop solutions for instant messaging, Internet Radio and mobile VoIP, today announced that it has closed a licensing deal with MEDION AG. Based in Germany, MEDION is a leading global provider of consumer electronics products ranging from portable digital audio players, satellite navigation systems, desktops, laptops and personal digital assistants. As part of the multi-year agreement, MEDION will pre-install and ship Geodesic’s award-winning Mundu IM solution in each unit of an upcoming youth-oriented mobile communications device, which will be sold throughout Europe. The deal expands Geodesic’s channel partnerships from leading Asian and European carriers, handset manufacturers and content providers to manufacturers of consumer handheld devices.
Mobile IM adoption in Europe is expected to triple from 8% in 2007 to 24% by 2013, taking the current subscriber base of 26.7 million to 80 million, according to a report issued by Forrester Research. Consumers want to be able to communicate with multiple friends over multiple IM accounts and have a richer mobile IM experience.
Geodesic’s Mundu IM is the leading universal mobile IM solution that successfully combines all of the leading IM services with deep collaboration across the Internet, wireless devices and platforms. Since its launch, Mundu IM has been the recipient of a string of industry awards that recognize the service as one of the top mobile applications in the market. Mundu IM operates across mobile, Web and desktop platforms and supports all leading web browsers, including IE, Mozilla Firefox and Safari. It also interoperates with the most popular IM services, including Yahoo, AOL, MSN, ICQ and Google Talk, with integrated Jabber for enterprise IM. Geodesic’s IM service also offers advanced features such as multi-lingual chat, conferencing capabilities across IM services, push email, and extensive presence management.
“After an extensive evaluation of available offerings, MEDION chose to partner with Geodesic and its market-leading Mundu IM service, which we believe will give us a significant competitive advantage,” noted Oliver Soellner, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) at MEDION. “Mundu IM meets our customers’ growing demands for innovative mobile solutions, by providing a highly interoperable, easy-to-use service with community features for information access, sharing and posting to social networks.”
Geodesic’s solutions are preferred by handset vendors and carriers worldwide because of their usability and innovative VAS offerings. Mundu IM enables manufacturers to offer user interface skinning and branding, and XMPP-based management for creating online communities that bridge consumers’ ability to share content across social networking sites while supporting their platform of choice.
“We’re very pleased to announce this partnership deal with MEDION, a company highly regarded for their extensive line of innovative and affordable products,” commented Arvind Venkateswaran, Geodesic’s Vice President and General Manager. “We look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with MEDION, starting in Europe and expanding to other regions.”
