MakeMyTrip, India's leading Online Travel Agency has launched an innovative feature to support travellers with making their hotel selections. The website's proprietary "Distance-meter" tool helps users determine the distance between a particular location and different hotels in the city. This feature is currently available for all major cities in the country like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Ahmedabad.

Speaking on this initiative, Mr. Rajnish Kapur, Chief Innovation Officer, at MakeMyTrip.com said, "MakeMyTrip is committed towards developing innovative offerings to meet the evolving needs of Indian travellers. Internal customer research highlighted the need for such a specific tool for frequent business travellers. We are extremely pleased to pioneer yet another innovation in the Online Travel space in India. The initial results have been extremely positive - Distance-Meter is now the single highest-used tool in the hotels section, with over 20% of visitors employing it to assist their hotel search and booking."

As part of its continuous efforts to meet emerging customer needs as they evolve, MakeMyTrip conducts regular usability studies with its customers. One such study conducted across the four metropolitan cities demonstrated an overwhelming need of business travellers to easily and accurately determine distances of various hotels from their respective place of business. Distance Meter from MakeMyTrip does not restrict the user to standard set of distances-values. The users can, in fact, themselves enter ANY area or address and hotels will be listed in ascending order of distance from the area of interest. This will enable the customer to search and book hotel closer to which ever location he wants

MakeMyTrip has developed hotels as a comprehensive offering on the website and through offline locations. The company has value-added to the category by introducing features like lowest-tariff guarantee, staff-undertaken reviews, and search parameters like location from city centre/ room category/ room cost.

The hotels business is a fast growing and important segment for MakeMyTrip. 60% of room-nights booked through MakeMyTrip last year were booked online. While 10% of the total revenue was generated from hotel bookings in the previous fiscal, the company expects the hotels booking business to pose a 200% growth in revenues in 2008-2009. It also aims to increase its inventory of hotels to over 4000. In line with its vision to focus on non-air business this year, MakeMyTrip has also set up regional offices in 22 locations so far.
