Explosion at Cochin Shipyard; 5 dead, 11 injured

A blast at the Cochin Shipyard earlier today killed five people and injured around 11. CNBC-TV18 learns that the blast is likely to have been caused by a fire on a ship that was under repair. In an interview to CNBC-TV18, Madhu S Nair, CMD of Cochin Shipyard spoke about the unfortunate incident.

Union Shipping and Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari has ordered a probe into the incident while also expressing regret and extending condolences to the bereaved family.

Shocked by unfortunate blast at Cochin Shipyard where five people have died. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I have spoken to the MD of Cochin Shipyard and asked him to provide all necessary medical support to victims and to initiate immediate inquiry with help of concerned agencies, he said.
