Part of the USD 30 billion Essar Group, its unlisted construction company Essar Projects recently completed a USD 236 million platform development work for ONGC and is now eyeing bigger projects.

With a current orderbook of USD 6 billion, it is competing with the likes of L&T and Punj Lloyd for three other projects worth over USD 360 million each.

However, the company is now shifting focus to global projects as well. "We are focused quite heavily in Papua Guinea at the moment because we have set up a regional centre there. We are bidding as much as we can locally so we are well placed on a number of projects there," said chief executive Alwyn Dowden today, adding that they will progress from there to Australia.

He goes on to say that company's growth plans and future order inflows also include the Middle East, Australasia and South East Asia, which is where they are bidding for projects.
