India signed a financing agreement with the World Bank seeking a credit of USD 300 million for the Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Quality Improvement Project.

The objective of the project is to improve student outcomes especially of disadvantaged groups in selected Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and to increase the effectiveness of the Higher Education System in Madhya Pradesh, a Finance Ministry statement said.

The agreement was signed by Department of Economic Affairs Joint Secretary Raj Kumar on behalf of India and World Bank's Country Director Onno Ruhl.

The project has three components that include grants support to higher education Institutions, State Level Initiatives and improving system management, the statement said.

The International Development Association (IDA) is the part of the World Bank that helps the world's poorest countries.

Established in 1960, IDA aims to reduce poverty by providing loans (called 'credits') and grants for programs that boost economic growth, reduce inequalities, and improve people's living conditions.
