Railway Budget 2016-17: 13 figures that tell the story

Railway minister Suresh Prabhu listed his government's achievements and also set targets for FY17

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu's speech was full of numbers as he listed his government's achievements and set targets for FY17. Below are the top 13 numbers:

1) Capex (FY17): Rs 1.21 lakh crore 

2) Gross revenue target (FY17): Rs 1,84,820 crore

3) Freight revenue (FY17): Rs 1,17,933 crore

4) Passenger earnings target (FY17): Rs 51,012 crore

5) To get Rs 40,000 cr budgetary support from the government

6) Expected operating ratio (FY17): 92 percent (will include immediate impact of the 7th Pay Commission)

7) Savings (FY17): Rs 3000 crore

8) Taking note of likely impact of 7th Pay Commission, the pension outgo has been budgeted at Rs 45,500 crore in 2016-17

9) 17,000 bio-toilets in trains and additional toilets at 475 stations before FY16-end

10) Wi-Fi services at 100 stations this year and at 400 more stations in the next 2 years

11) To commission 2,800 km of new tracks in next year

12) To install high-tech centralized network of 20,000 screens across 2000 stations known as Rail Display Network

13) Railway electrification to increase by almost 50 percent and proposes to electrify 2,000 kms next financial year
