Driving out Tata Motors
About 200 Singur farmers collected their compensation cheques today. The distribution started barely 12 hours after a lathi-charge on protesting farmers and opposition leaders, reports CNBC-TV18.
About 200 Singur farmers collected their compensation cheques today. The distribution started barely 12 hours after a lathi-charge on protesting farmers and opposition leaders, reports CNBC-TV18.
They were rallying against the state government's plans to acquire 1,000 acres for a proposed Tata Motors factory at Singur near Kolkata. The compensation is reasonable but nothing great. West Bengal is paying Rs 140 crore for the 1,000-acre plot. But price per acre ranges from Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 15 lakh.
Tata Motors maintains confidence in Bengal government. The land is likely to be transferred in record time.
