Dr Reddy's launches generic osteoporosis drug in the US

Dr Reddy's Laboratories launched Ibandronate Sodium tablets in 150 mg strength in the US market on June 29, following an approval from US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), the pharma company said on Monday.

Dr Reddy's Laboratories launched Ibandronate Sodium tablets in 150 mg strength in the US market on June 29, following an approval from US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), the pharma company said on Monday.


Dr Reddy's Ibandronate Sodium tablets are a bioequivalent generic version of Boniva, marketed by Roche Therapeutics.  Boniva is used to treat or prevent osteoporosis in women after menopause.


The Boniva brand and its copy drugs had US sales of about USD 486 million for the year ended March 2012, the Hyderabad-based company said citing IMS Health data.


The Dr Reddy's tablets are available in cartons of three blister packs containing one tablet each for once monthly dosage.


Dr Reddy's shares were down 0.4% at Rs 1,642 on NSE in noon trade.
