French heavy engineering major Alstom may have been hit by slowdown when it comes to fresh order inflows both in India and globally. But the management says Alstom 's diverse offerings in power are helping it withstand the headwinds.

Chairman Patrick Kron spoke to CNBC TV18's Archana Shukla about their India business and the concerns on NTPC slowing down orders and their plans for the JV with Bharat Forge.

Kron says, "It's clear that in the coal area, for instance, NTPC is delaying a number of its investment decisions because of some challenges in courts and various reasons. We hope that this is going to be solved promptly and move ahead."

Alstom has been selected by NTPC as the L1 supplier in the recent large tender. Kron expects that this will turn into first a contract and then execution and load  as we are building factories to support these projects.

He further says, the company is active in all the fields. "It may be slow for a period of time in coal, but we have been very active in hydro, nuclear and in the grid sector. So, all in all we try to balance what happens in one area by good news elsewhere."

Below is the edited transcript of his interview. Also watch the accompanying video.

Q: There has been a hitch, the NTPC project has not yet been awarded. Your joint venture with Bharat Forge is setting up a plant also for that project. Is there a shift in the strategy? Are you looking to slowdown the project or in the meantime look at some of the export projects that you can service from that joint venture?

A: Today, we have no concern. As I said being L1 has been an encouragement to move ahead. It has been challenged by third parties in court, I think this challenge wouldn't stand. I hope that the decision will allow to move ahead. If there is any unexpected problem we will adapt, but I am quite confident that things will move as expected.
