The Disney Channel version of this great Indian story begins with Vetaal having been stuck hanging upside down from a banyan tree for three hundred years. One dark night, he is accidentally rescued by eleven year old stubborn brat Vicky. This begins a roller coaster ride of a relationship, full of fun and magic. Vetaal believes it is his destiny to be called back eventually by his people but for now his is stuck with Vicky. Athough Vetaal once had magical power, after three hundred years they have become rusty, resulting in his magic going wrong almost all the time and landing Vicky in trouble. To undo the mess, Vetaal uses an eccentric 'spell book' which has a life and attitude of its own. The chemistry between Vicky and Vetaal is volatile and makes for fun viewing. Both Vicky and Vetaal get carried away by each other's pranks and together create havoc. However, when they realize that together they have crossed the line, they correct the situation and undo the wrong. In his own way, Vicky stands for the underdog and targets his mischief with an intent to correct the wrongs in the world around him. To promote "VICKY AUR VETAAL", Disney Channel has launched a unique theme-driven marketing campaign involving TV, Radio, Internet, and outdoor apart from an off-air promotion which includes touch-points at McDonalds and other outlets frequented by kids. Disney Channel is committed to its localization initiative and has continued to build on its original local content since its launch on 17th December, 2004 as a 24-hour fully Hindi-languaged channel. Soon after its debut, the channel has enhanced its local theme and environment through featuring Indian kids during interstitials and music videos on a regular basis. Starting 2006, Disney Channel has also acquired locally popular kids shows on general entertainment channels to include 'KARISHMA KA KARISHMA', 'HATIM' AND 'HANUMAN'.
