DaimlerChrysler India will start its new plant in early 2009, but will start local assembly of trucks by December this year.

It has doubled sales of imported trucks over last year, selling about 100 units this year. DaimlerChrysler India CEO Wilfried Aulbur said that big investment in developing an Indian vendor base for global operations will come handy.

“Basically, for the last 8-9 years, we have invested heavily on vendor development in India for operations in Japan, Germany and USA. We can use them as local vendors for our trucks,” said Wilfried Aulbur, MD & CEO, DaimlerChrysler India.
