Connect, the leading telecom service provider in Punjab and Chandigarh, today made a historic move in the Indian telecom market by making every call in Punjab and Chandigarh a local call. Going beyond offering preferred call charges on its own network, Connect, today, made history by breaking all barriers and announcing call charges of Rs. 1.20 per 3 minutes for calls made to any telecom network in the state of Punjab and Chandigarh, be it on GSM, CDMA, WLL or Fixed Line phones, thereby making every call in the state of Punjab and Chandigarh, a local call.

The reduction in call charges has resulted in a drop of 75 percent in the rates applicable on the Connect network for calls made to mobile phones in Punjab and Chandigarh. Moreover, the new rate will effectively reduce the call charges by 67 percent for calls made by Connect subscriber to any fixed line phone beyond a radius of 50km within the state of Punjab and Chandigarh. The new tariff plan will be available to all existing subscribers of Connect fixed line phones as well to subscribers enrolling for new connections from July 19, 2006.

Mr. Mahendra Nahata, Chairman, HFCL Infotel Ltd., said "This is the first time in the history of Indian telephony that any telecom operator has offered uniform tariffs across all available networks. Connect has always endeavored to provide its customers an array of options to suit their requirements. Launch of the new tariff plan which makes every call in the state of Punjab and Chandigarh a local call, is a step in this direction"

Under the new tariff, Connect subscribers will be charged a local pulse rate (of 180 seconds) for calls to any phone in Punjab and Chandigarh. Effectively, Connect subscribers will be charged Rs. 1.20 per 3 minutes. Calls to mobile phones were earlier being charged at Rs. 1.20 per 45 seconds and calls to fixed line phones beyond a radius of 50km were being charged at Rs. 1.20 per 60 seconds.

Calling it a "revolution", Mr. Surendra Lunia, CEO, HFCL Infotel Ltd., said, "The new tariff will offer maximum benefits to all our subscribers, irrespective of the plan they choose. This tariff would result in huge savings for both business and home users across Punjab and Chandigarh."

Connect subscribers who wish to avail this new tariff can call 1920 from their Connect phone for more details.
