This Hero dealer in Tamil Nadu offered a free goat with every bike or a scooter
this was the first time that livestock was given as a freebee with a two-wheeler to attract buyers
A Hero Motocorp dealer in Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu decided to take marketing to a different level. Gayathri Motors, an authorized dealer of Hero Motocorp, India’s largest manufacturer of two-wheelers, was giving away a goat free with every bike and scooter.
Bike specific freebies such as full tank petrol, seat or body cover, crash guard or unrelated items like steam iron, hand blenders or mixer grinder are often given away with two-wheelers. However, this was the first time that livestock was given as a freebee with a two-wheeler to attract buyers.
Though the offer has been withdrawn by the dealer Gayathri Motors in Ilayangudi, which is about 70 kms from Madurai, it managed to attract several buyers. The offer was to be valid for purchases made during October 11-14.
When a Moneycontrol reporter contacted the dealer, a sales executive informed that they have ‘cancelled’ the offer since Wednesday possibly due to an overwhelming response from the market and its inability to service the demand. Ilayangudi is a small town situated about 37 kms from Sivaganga.
A mail sent to Hero MotoCorp on Thursday asking if the company was aware and in support of the unusual and unique offer remained unanswered at the time of publishing this article. At more than 6,000 Hero has the largest number of dealers and sub-dealers in the country.
The industry is already into the festive days but wholesales numbers (sales to dealers) are not hitting the roof yet. Last month, Hero saw sales increase of less than 7 percent at over 7 lakh sales. Honda posted a volume growth of nearly 6 percent during the same month at 6 lakh units. Both Honda and Hero who control more than 70 percent share of the domestic market, claimed to clock more than 1 million units in retail sales during the festive days so far.
