H1B situation could become India’s Y2K moment: Anand Mahindra

The reintroduction of the H1B visa Reform Bill in the US Congress could turn out to be India's Y2K situation, says Anand Mahindra, Chairman and Managing Director of Mahindra Group.

The H1B issue could be looked at as an opportunity as well, as Indian IT companies' margins improve with the expectation that offshoring increases, says Mahindra from the sidelines of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2017.

He is of the opinion that President-elect Donald Trump will do anything to jeopardise India's position with the US.

Demonetisation is a massive opportunity for India to embrace digital working, says Mahindra. The cash ban has also improved transparency and a massive trasfer of wealth from the wrongdoers to the poor, he adds.

He sees "far earlier signs of revival" from demonetisation.

While December volume were healthy for Maruti, the company is expecting higher volumes in January, said Kenichi Ayukawa, MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki. The company will be launching Ignis this week and is confident of its success.
