Bajaj Auto launched an all new Discover 125 cc motorcycle in an effort to increase volumes in the mass commuter segment. The new bike would be available across the dealerships in the country from July-August. The new product will be launched from a new platform, reports CNBC-TV18.
"We have had this migration of consumers who want something more than just a regular 100 cc commuting motorcycle. The job that was started by the Pulsar and that it continues to do is now being carried forward also by brand Discover from our point of view," said Rajiv Bajaj, managing director, Bajaj Auto.
In the year that we just finished of every 100 motorcycles sold as an industry almost 35 belong to the 125 cc and above class.
On being asked about the competition between Bajaj and Honda, Bajaj said, all competition is fair in a free market. There is nothing unfair about it. What will happen tomorrow is only speculation. Honda has been making motorcycles in this market since 2004.
Between the Dazzler, Unicorn, Stunner, Shine, Twister and the CBRs they have about six or seven brands in the market over the last seven years. Their motorcycle volume is about 75,000 a month, ours is 2,00,000 a month as far as the domestic market is concerned.
