In an open challenge to its former ally and market leader Hero Motocorp, Japanese Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India or HMSI today said that it could become the No.1 two-wheeler maker by 2015, as opposed to its original plan of hitting the numero uno spot by 2020.
For this purpose, the company will launch around three new entry-level 100 cc motorcycles to challenge the leadership of the Splendor.
The company also showcased its new 150 cc bike CB Trigger today that would taken on Hero's Xtreme, Hunk and Bajaj Pulsar and Discover.
Shinji Aoyama, HMSI, global motorcycle head told CNBC-TV18 that Honda is open to extending the tech alliance with Hero beyond 2014. He added that, "The company will listen to any proposal from any company. It is a different question whether we are into it or not. We are ready to listen to anyone."
