EPCA or the Environment Pollution and Control Authority has opposed allowing sale of BS-III vehicles beyond April 1, reports CNBC-TV18's Ashmit Kumar.
The government earlier through its notification had made it clear that the two-wheeler manufacturers are to stop manufacturing BS-III vehicles as of March 31, 2017.
The main bone of contention was that EPCA had interpreted the above notification as a stop to sales of these vehicles post-April along with its manufacturing. However, Society of Indian Automobile Manufactures (SIAM) says since the notification allows them to manufacture vehicles till March 31, the ban cannot be made effective from April 1.
The Supreme Court will hear EPCA appeal on March 24.
