The Tamil Nadu government has decided to impose a 30% entertainment tax on DTH players and 25% tax on IPL. A bill to this effect was passed in the assembly today, reports Swathi Narayanan of CNBC-TV18.

This tax has come at a very significant moment. Arasu Cables has just been launched by the Jayalalitha government. People can watch Arasu Cables at a cost of just Rs 70 but it does not have major channels like SUN TV, RAJ TV or Vijay TV which is popularly seen by the Tamil audience.

They are really upset by the fact that they will not able to watch their favourite serials. So, many people are expected to flock towards DTH. SUN DTH is the biggest player in Tamil Nadu.

India Cements has earned more than Rs 80 crore from IPL, however the impact of this move on the company is yet to be seen. But, the timing of this move is definitely very significant.
