This appears to be pressure tactics by the workers because this is not something that we have seen for the first time. We have seen unions in the past resort and hoping that the management would cave in and give in to their demands.

Following the meeting today, union members said they are not happy with the fact that the company is not even willing to negotiate. They are saying that the company has made an offer but they are not willing to budge from their position. In fact what we understand is that the union has also told the management that if no solution is found, if they do not cave in to the demands then by this week they might resort to tools down or a slowdown in production.

The industry sources say that workers on an average are much better paid. In Honda Motorcycles after a near 50 percent hike in their wages the average salary is about Rs 36000 which is still Rs 10000 lesser than what Hero Moto Corp workers get. So, we will have to wait and watch whether the workers actually resort to this or whether it’s just a threat from them.
