The much awaited 2nd CNBC-TV18 CFO Awards, were announced on Thursday evening, in a glittering ceremony in Central Mumbai.
Parthasarthi Shome, Advisor to the Finance Ministry, gave away the awards before an august gathering.
The second CNBC-TV18 CFO Awards were presented and Bharat Doshi of M&M is CNBC-TV18's CFO of the Year.
Ravi Nedungadi of UB Breweries won the Best Performing CFO award-Retail and FMCG award. The Best Performing CFO–Technology award was won by S Mahalingam of TCS.
Koushik Chatterjee of Tata Steel won the Best Performing CFO- Commodities, while the Best Performing CFO–Financial Services award was won by Keki Mistry of HDFC. The award for Best Performing CFO in healthcare was won by Saumen Chakraborty of DRL.
Bharat Doshi of M&M won the award for Auto, Aviation and auto ancillary sector. RS Sharma of ONGC was adjudged the best performing CFO in oil ,gas and chemicals.
L&T’s Y M Deosthalee won the award for Best Performing CFO-Infrastructure. The Best Performing CFO - M&A was Koushik Chatterjee of Tata Corus.
The CFO awards were given away in Mumbai on Thursday. It was a star-studded evening honouring the best performing CFOs in different sectors.
It was an evening to honour the big deal makers, financial wizards and some would say, Deputy CEOs of corporate India. CNBC TV18's second CFO Awards witnessed a tough fight between some of the biggest names in the finance function. Dr Parthasarthy Shome, Advisor to the Finance Minister was present to give away the coveted awards, reports CNBC-TV18.
The Best Performing CFO-Financial Services was awarded to Keki Mistry, HDFC. The booming financial services sector was one of the toughest categories for the jury to judge, but they finally settled on a name who has not only performed as a CFO, but also one of the few to have made a successful transition as a CEO, the ever dependable HDFCs Keki Mistry.
The best performing CFO - Auto,Aviation and Auto Ancillary was awarded to Bharat Doshi of M&M. Automobiles sector was easier for the jury. M&M 's Bharat Doshi was the unanimous choice for charting the company 's entry into different markets; in some through acquisitions and in others through strategic tie-ups, like the one with Renault.
The Best Performing CFO - Technology was awarded to S Mahalingam, TCS. The technology sector witnessed a straight face-off between TCS and Infosys, but TCS CFO Mahalingam was again the unanimous choice, for not only managing the rupee appreciation better but also for his stable leadership at TCS.
Best Performing CFO- Commodities was awarded to Koushik Chatterjee, Tata Steel. Commodities was the easiest for the jury. The CFO, who was one of the key players in the biggest ever acquisition by an Indian company - Tata Steel's Kaushik Chaterjee. He also took him the award for the best deal of the year.
Best Performing CFO - Retail and FMCG was awarded to Ravi Nedungadi of UB Breweries. UB Group 's Ravi Nedungadi was a clear winner in the FMCG and retail space, for his stellar role in the billion dollar acquisition of UK-based White & Mackay, paving the way for UB 's entry into other lucrative markets.
Best Performing CFO-Oil, gas and chemicals was awarded to RS Sharma of ONGC. The oil and gas sector was a close call, but ONGC's RS Sharma edged out Reliance Industries’ Alok Agarwal to walk away with the trophy. Saumen Chakraborty of Dr Reddy 's Laboratories was a clear winner in the healthcare sector.
With all category winners competing for the big trophy- CFO of the year, it was always going to be a tough call for the jury. The lengthy, heated debate finally culminated in a close vote among jury members and the winner. While it was celebration time for the winners, CFOs also acknowledged the challenges lying ahead.
