Cisco introduces 3-D video technology in India

Cisco has introduced 3-dimensional video technology. But that's just one of the announcements its chief John Chambers made.

That's an applause for technology. Cisco is marketing a device that lets you virtually teleport a person across continents. Tele-presence uses high definition video, which is projected on a screen, with virtually no time lag. The company has conducted 28,000 meetings using the technology and hopes higher bandwidth will help bring this technology into homes soon. It's targeting a billion dollars from it.

John Chambers , Chairman & CEO, Cisco said, "This will be ongoing and the one billion, when we look back 5-10 years from now, will actually be a small number."

Cisco also says it will develop infrastructure services with Wipro. That's its first global tie-up. The venture is expected to rake in about a billion dollars in three years. Besides, Chambers wants to have sustained investment in India over the next five years. That would be far more than the billion dollars he said he would invest in India during his last visit here. And that calls for a round of applause, too.
