An MoU for enhancing cooperation between Indian & Chinese industries for protection of IPRs was concluded today between Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Quality Brand Protection Committee (QBPC) of China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment at the Consulate General of India. It was signed between Shri Madhav Sharma, Director & Chief Representative, CII-China and Mr. Jack Chang, Chairman of QBPC-China.
Terming the initiative 'timely and important' Consul General Vishnu Prakash called for regular exchanges and sharing of best practices between judicial, governmental and industrial bodies of India and China.
The MoU provides for setting up of a working group between CII and QBPC to organize an annual forum on IPR protection and exchange of database regarding service providers for IPRs and includes organizing awareness campaigns and training programmes for stake holders of both sides.
QBPC is a nodal organization in China for IPR protection. Set up in March 2000, it has a membership of 181 MNC's which have investments worth USD 70 billion in China. All its members are brand owners and it has 17 industry working groups to address IPR related issues and brand protection. It also has a regular dialogue mechanism with Chinese government for redressal of IPR disputes.
CII and QBPC have an annual exchange programme and delegations from both sides have regularly been visiting each other to discuss ways of forging closer partnership in the fields of IPR protection, patent registration mechanism and brand protection between Indian and Chinese industries.
