Mr Pradeep Dhobale, Chairman, Energy Efficiency Council, CII - Godrej GBC announced the launch of World Class Energy Efficiency movement in Pulp & Paper Industry, at the PaperTech 2007 conference organized jointly by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) & Indian Paper Manufacturers Association (IPMA) in Hyderabad today.
In his address, he highlighted that the Pulp and paper production is highly energy intensive with 75% of the energy requirement being used as process heat. He also stressed on the need to concentrate more on thermal energy conservation.
While Inaugurating and addressing the event, Mr Ravi Uppal, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, ABB Ltd mentioned that the increase in paper consumption symbolizes national progress in literacy levels and also economic growth of the country. He urged the Indian paper industry to look at the gap between paper plants in India and abroad as windows of opportunities for development.
Citing the example of hard cardboard used for packing instead of wood, he suggested exploring new uses of paper and increasing the demand in the market which will lead to installation of new paper plants.
He also mentioned that the Indian paper industry which has been focusing on incremental improvements over the years should come out and install new plants with advanced technologies to achieve quantum jumps. He stated that latest technology can make a difference of upto 25% in resource consumption.
