Readers of Chandamama Tamil and Hindi can now find their favourite stories at www.chandamama.com/tamil and www.chandamama.com/hindi. The sites contain a mix of popular Chandamama stories from mythology, historical, comical to contemporary. This takes the number of languages on the website to four. The other two being English and Telugu.

Chandamama.com has also put a part of its 60 year archive online. Currently early editions of Hindi, English, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu can be found on the site. The other languages, as well as all 60 years back issues will go live soon.

Commenting on the archives, Chandamama CEO L. Subramanyan said, “There is a huge demand for classical Chandamama stories. We are inundated with requests and letters for back issues. By putting our archives up online, we hope we are in some way able to satisfy this demand. We have only put up six languages now, but eventually our entire 60 years will be available online.”

On the launch Tamil and Hindi sites, Subu said, “we like to reach out to children in an environment they are most comfortable. The message of Chandamama is relevant across language and cultures.” He also pointed out that “the Tamil and Hindi sites contain original stories written for the Tamil and Hindi publications and in many cases these are different from the stories you will find on the English and Telugu site.

“We have also introduced a post section online, where children can post their stories, poems, jokes etc. This is to make Chandamama.com a truly interactive destination, where children can both learn and share. Right now it is possible to only post English content. The language edition posts will follow,” said Subu.

Coming up next on Chandamama.com are the Marathi and Oriya language sites.

The site content is classified into:

Classical: Including mythology, Panchatantra stories, Jataka Tales, Vikram/Vetala etc.

Contemporary: Including Indian and world history, stories about Indian achievers among others.

Current content: Deals with stories on science, general knowledge, sports etc as relevant to children.
