Carrier Airconditioning and Refrigeration Ltd. (Carrier India) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Haryana Technology Park (HTP) to help create one of the world's most energy-efficient commercial buildings. Carrier will provide highly energy-efficient air-conditioning equipment for a building that is located in the National Capital Region's first fully integrated independent information technology special economic zone. Carrier India's parent company is Carrier Corp., a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

The Harayana Technology Park is being promoted by Selecto Systems Private Limited, a sister company of Paharpur Business Centre and Software Technology Incubation Park (PBC-STIP). The facility is also being designed as a US Green Building Council Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) "Platinum Rated" Green Building.

"Carrier has been synonymous with environmentally sustainable stewardship in the air-conditioning and refrigeration industry for decades," said Zubin Irani, managing director of Carrier India. "We strive to provide the best cooling solution to create an environmentally sound world."

"The partnership with Carrier is an important strategic element for our objective of  making HTP the world's most energy-efficient commercial building," said Kamal Meattle, chief executive officer of the Harayana Technology Park. "Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) represents the single largest use of energy in a commercial building of this nature, accounting for nearly half of the total energy used. Carrier's new generation of chillers that will be available during the next two years will help us reduce the HVAC energy load and overall energy consumption at HTP when it is commissioned in early 2010."

Irani added, "Due to the continuous burden on the country's environment and natural resources, there is a pressing need for innovative and environmentally sustainable solutions. We offer the widest range of environmentally responsible heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration products. Carrier led the industry in the phase out of ozone depleting refrigerants and ceased global production of CFC-based equipment well ahead of the deadline in the Montreal Protocol."

Carrier's commitment to green technologies includes offering Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) star rated air-conditioning products and being a founding member of the Indian Green Building Council. Carrier was the first in the industry to introduce non-ozone depleting commercial and residential air-conditioning systems.
