CARBONyatra.com , India's only carbon emissions news and information portal, and MCX Academia of Economic Research (MAER), have announced a one-day intensive carbon credits workshop to be conducted by leading experts from the carbon market in Mumbai on January 18th, 2008 at Hotel Orchid.

The carbon credits market is already a $30 billion a year industry and India has the potential to generate 417 million carbon credits by 2012 when the first commitment period of Kyoto Protocol ends. Almost all sectors are keen to tap the carbon market. The key to establishing a robust carbon market, say experts, lies in empowering the industry to develop small scale carbon projects on their own or with some assistance from experts in the field.

"This market is growing rapidly. We are organizing this workshop for those who want to develop carbon credits projects and receive expert advice on preparing project design documents or PDDs," said Dr Madhoo Pavaskar, Consulting Editor of Commodity Vision and Director of MAER.

The sessions in the workshop will include carbon pricing, project management, trading on available carbon platforms, PDD methodology selection and emissions calculations for hydro and biomass-based clean development mechanism or CDM projects among others.
