Cairn India Ltd , subsidiary of Cairn Energy, is despatching its production from the Ravva offshore oil field in the Krishna-Godavari basin to the Bongaigaon Refinery in Assam this fiscal year.

Ravva's crude production is estimated at 1.45 million tonnes or about 10.63 million barrels this financial year. Sources said that Cairn is currently producing about 49,000 barrels a day from the field. Oil retrieved from the Ravva oil field is a premium, low sulphur crude referred to as sweet crude.

The sources said that in the event of the production exceeding the target, the excess would be sent to the Visakhapatnam Refinery owned by the public sector Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd . The buyer would lift the crude from the terminal for onward shipments to Bongaigaon through the sea up to Haldia and then through pipeline route, the sources added.
