Bhoruka Power commissions Rs 80cr hydel power plant

Bangalore-based Bhoruka Power Corporation Limited (BPCL), part of the leading Bhoruka Group, today announced the commissioning of its hydel power plant in Chayadevi in Gulbarga district. The project, with an investment of Rs 80 crores, has a total capacity of 24 MW. The Chayadevi Project has received UNFCCC Board approval for Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) benefits.

 

BPCL plans five new additions by 2008 at an estimated investment of Rs 225 crores, with four power plants in Karnataka and one in Haryana. All the projects are currently under implementation. The Rs 225 crores required for the above is being met through a combination of loans (70%) and internal accruals and quasi equity of around 30%.

 

Commenting on the launch of the new project, Mr S Chandrashekhar, Managing Director, BPCL, said, "We are pleased to announce the commissioning of the first unit of Chayadevi Project. Our vision is to be the largest producers of green energy in India and in the process, maintain a clean and green environment. Bhoruka Power is today the leader in Small Hydro in the country, having implemented 89 MW consisting of 15 hydro stations and two wind power plant. We plan to increase our capacity from the current 93 MW to 200 MW by 2009-10. The Chayadevi Project alone has a potential to generate 55 million units per annum." 

 

Speaking on the occasion, Mr S N Agarwal, Chairman, Bhoruka Group, said, "We at Bhoruka Power are making significant contributions to the global environment movement and will continue to take the renewable energy route with increasing vigor. Our plant at Chayadevi on river Krishna has been constructed using state-of-the-art technology and fortified against huge releases during flood situations."
