Bharti Airtel , India's leading telecom service provider, reckoned for delivering innovations, has deployed country's first of its kind street light pole mounted mobile base station, at the Airoli Flyover in Mumbai. A pilot project undertaken with due support from Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), this novel initiative will provide seamless network connectivity to Airtel customers transiting through the Airoli Flyover. Airtel is the first operator in the country to design and deploy this novel network initiative.

The Airoli Flyover faced natural constraints of being surrounded by sea and unavailability of any concrete structures, for erecting mobile towers. In order to overcome the limitations of accessing seamless network connectivity, on the 2km Airoli flyover stretch, Airtel's network deployment team designed this innovative concept of mounting the mobile base station on street light poles, to provide seamless network connectivity on the flyover.

Commenting at the inauguration of this novel network initiative, Mr. Manu Talwar, CEO (Mobile Services), Bharti Airtel, Maharashtra & Goa circle, said "It is indeed a proud moment for us to be the first operator in the country to deploy this innovative network initiative of Street light pole mounted mobile base stations, at Airoli flyover, Mumbai. It reiterates our drive to offer superior network experience to our customers irrespective of the challenges faced. Post successful trials of this pilot project, Airtel will be tapping such important flyovers in Mumbai with street light pole mounted mobile base stations."

Currently, Airtel has a robust network of over 1600 mobile base stations in Mumbai that provides superior network connectivity across all wards and highways in the city. In an endeavor to offer seamless network connectivity Airtel plans to cover over 90 important flyovers in Mumbai after receiving due permissions from concerned authorities.
