With Comet 1611, Ashok Leyland has engineered a vehicle that is the closest fit to meet the growing demand in rated payload segments such as containers, parcel, courier, white goods and tankers.

At the launch today, Mr R N Rao, Special Director - Sales & Service, cited fuel efficiency as the standout feature of Comet 1611.   "Extensive performance trials have shown that the Comet 1611 gives fuel efficiency up to 10% better than existing models in this class of vehicles. Today, fuel accounts for over 60% of the operating cost. Comet 1611 is designed to address this top-of-the-mind concern of our customers", he said. The enhanced fuel efficiency is the result of the proven H series BSII 4-cylinder engine equipped with an optimized driveline that has ZF 5-speed synchromesh gearbox and hypoid rear axle.

Additional loading span, fully built body options and the comfortable driver cab boost customer profitability. At 20 ft, Comet 1611 offers extra loading span over current vehicles in its class.   This translates to proportionately higher revenue in voluminous applications. Customers also stand to gain from the fully-built options such as containers and tankers as they allow the customer to earn from day one with this ready-to-use vehicles.

"Specialized vehicles tailor-made for specific applications are a feature of a maturing industry.  This new introduction to the product portfolio is perfectly in line with Ashok Leyland's product philosophy of offering products that best fit each application segment, to maximize customer profitability. This is specially relevant in the case of Maharashtra that is for us a huge 4x2 market.  Comet 1611 is an attractive proposition to customers in the 10T to 10.5T payload band where the 10 KL tankers for a variety of liquid goods operate", elaborated Mr Rao.
