AREVA T&D India will inaugurate eight new factories on three sites in Vadodara (State of Gujarat), Hosur and Padappai (State of Tamil Naidu) this week. Driven by the Indian market's growing demands for more electrical equipment and services, this marks the successful close of nearly INR 950 crore (150€ million) investment.

With the expected demand for electricity, under the Government's 11th and 12th five year plans an additional 161 GW of new power generation will be added by 2020 and significant investments made in the electrical grid. With its new factories, AREVA will supply substations and equipment at highest voltage levels: 765kV (EHV - AC) and 1200kV (UHV - AC) and at 800kV for HVDC.to support the country's growing demand.

The largest of AREVA T&D's new sites (350,000 sqm) is based in Vadodara. The site houses four factories, including a Power Transformer plant with the largest transformer testing capabilities in India. AREVA manufactures extra and ultra high voltage (EHV and UHV) Power Transformers up to 1200 kV AC and 800 kV DC in one factory. Distribution Transformers, Secondary Distribution Switchgear and Primary Distribution Switchgear up to 36kV, are also manufactured in Vadodara.

The site at Padappai hosts three new factories, including India's first Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) production facility. With a covered manufacturing area of 21,400 sqm, the site also hosts a Circuit Breaker factory and a Disconnector factory (both up to 1200kV).

The Hosur (90,000 sqm) site will manufacture Condenser Bushings and Instrument Transformers (up to 1200kV). It also houses an Instrument Transformer competency center, providing high-level global Research and Development expertise.

The three sites have UHV capabilities, including a UHV testing laboratory up to 1200kV, the highest AC/DC voltage level design and production facilities, and Basic Impulse Level (BIL) testing facilities.

"With this substantial investment, we will further reinforce AREVA T&D India's clear leadership in extra high voltage and position ourselves for the future ultra high voltage technology, including with full localization of these offers. We also expect to create more than 1500 direct jobs as well as several thousand indirect jobs over the next four years," said Philippe Guillemot, Chairman and CEO of AREVA T&D.
