The civil aviation ministry today sought to wash its hand off the hike, saying it had little to do with the move. Aviation minister Ajit Singh today said that the airports economic regulatory authority was a judicial body and the ministry could not intervene. He said Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) wanted 800% hike in fees but the authority has come up with the current structure taking into account all the parameters. “They have to look at the airport cost and of course the passenger cost and all those are there. So, these are the reasons they have given,” he told CNBC-TV18. Singh added that the hike was meant to be made in 2009 but now that it has been hiked they will recover the charges of the last five years in the next two years. “The airport development fees will cease in next two years, which will ease the situation,” he said.
