A group company of auto parts maker Amtek Auto Ltd will set up a 2 million tonne steel plant and an auto parts unit in Orissa, spending 158 billion rupees, the company said on Friday.

Amtek Metal and Mining Ltd, the company, signed a memorandum with the Orissa government and will complete the project 3 years after it gets land, Saurabh Garg, Orissa industry secretary told Reuters.

The project will be spread over 2,500 acres (1,012 hectares) near Cuttack town, the company said.

Acquiring land for industry has been increasingly difficult due to bureaucratic delays and local protests. This has delayed plans by world's leading steelmakers Arcelormittal and Posco to set up steel plants in the state.
