Thomas Cook (India) Ltd., the country’s leading travel solutions company has further strengthen its management team with the appointment of Mr. Amitabh Pandey as the President & Head for the launch of its E- Business. Mr. Pandey will be responsible for redesigning and setting up of the TCIL’s Travel Portal. The proposed TCIL’s travel portal will be a virtual one-stop-travel-shop that will allow customers to choose from its complete range of travel solutions. This will include an expansive database of travel packages on domestic and international destinations, worldwide network of hotels, network carriers, low cost airlines, travel insurance and promotional schemes.
Mr. Madhavan Menon, Managing Director, Thomas Cook (India) Ltd. said, “We are trying to reach around 28 million active Internet users through this portal. The Indian online travel market is expected reach a size of around US$ 2 billion mark in 2008 and we aim to be a significant player in this segment. I welcome Amitabh on board Thomas Cook and look forward to him & his team to take us to similar heights as we are in brick & mortar segment.
Entry into online segment will be backed by TCIL’s strong brand equity in the brick & mortar segment. The company will leverage its present strengths in B2B & B2C space along with existing relationships on the supplier side. The proposed portal will be a window selling complete range of products in TCIL’s portfolio including holidays, insurance, travel solution and tickets.
It may be recalled that the company had been on fast growth path since January 2006, when it was taken over by Dubai Investment Group (DIG). The merger of LKP forex and acquisition of TCI had given Thomas Cook (India) market leadership in foreign exchange and inbound travel segment. With the branch network of 196 locations TCIL is the India’s largest integrated travel services provider. Addition of travel portal to its current basket will make Thomas Cook (India) the most comprehensive and complete provider of travel & travel related services in India.
Says Mr. Amitabh Pandey, President & Head, E-Business, TCIL “The proposed travel portal will be a best in class online experience for travellers looking to plan their vacations from the comfort of their living rooms. We promise to iron out travel hassles and provide the traditional Thomas Cook experience to all our customers. The portal will allow travel planning and online purchase through the click of a mouse. The company will put in all of its 125 years of travel business experience in the portal to provide Business-to-Business and Business-to-Customer solutions.”
