In one of the world's fastest growing and most competitive telecom markets, Alcatel-Lucent stole the show at 15th Convergence India -South Asia's largest telecommunications events. Alcatel-Lucent featured several product displays and co-sponsored Convergence 2007. The event attracted numerous participants from all over Asia, and some from Europe as well.
Alcatel-Lucent booth featured a lively demonstration of the auto-rickshaw - a local favorite in public transport, which became a favorite for all participants of the tradeshow! A symbol of 'Broadband for All', the auto-rickshaw was the perfect vehicle for representing the combination of Alcatel-Lucent's global WiMAX 16.e Infrastructure interoperating live with the C-dot Alcatel-Lucent End-User Equipment, demonstrating the end-to-end capabilities of our solution. This End-User equipment, developed by the C-DOT Alcatel-Lucent Research Center in Chennai, is perfectly suited to offering access to voice or data services. The auto-rickshaw and its live WiMAX demo sent a strong message of the commercial availability of a global solution that caters to local market needs. "Emerging markets create the opportunity for Alcatel-Lucent to create new business models; and India is a key market for us to deploy these models with service providers," said John Giere, chief marketing officer, Alcatel-Lucent.
In addition to the live WiMAX demo, key solutions of Alcatel-Lucent targeting South Asia were also demonstrated, Competitive Transformation and Broadband for All: IMS community services, IPTV, IP MPLS as well as Unified Communications and IP Telephony for Enterprise.
Alcatel-Lucent had three speakers addressing three different subjects. The conference was inaugurated with John Giere discussing the how technological convergence can and should be deployed in the Indian context. Patrick Veron, CEO C-DOT Alcatel-Lucent Research Center presented Alcatel-Lucent's solution of WiMAX 16.e for the future needs of India - Urban and Rural.
