Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced a joint solution with McAfee, Inc. (NYSE: MFE) that integrates the Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian (NLG) with McAfeeÒ Endpoint Encryption software, delivering a powerful mobile security solution for lost and stolen laptops. Alcatel-Lucent has joined the McAfee Security Innovation Alliance™ to enable smart card pre-boot authentication and “remote kill” capabilities for laptops, thereby assuring data protection and compliance.
The Alcatel-Lucent and McAfee solution, available today, offers extensive auditing and reporting capabilities to meet industry and government compliance requirements. Alcatel-Lucent’s OmniAccess 3500 NLG has the ability to integrate with encryption vendors like McAfee, enhancing the existing solution by enabling enterprises to oversee the security on their mobile laptops and the data they contain 24x7, regardless of the power state of the laptop. The Nonstop Laptop Guardian leverages 3G wireless networks - CDMA, HSPA - allowing enterprises to manage and secure mobile laptops to the same degree as desktop computers are managed and secured today. IT staff can deliver patches or software updates, track location and secure and control data to a laptop at anytime, even when the laptop is turned off. The Nonstop Laptop Guardian solution provides enterprises with improved visibility, reduced risk and increased policy compliance.
“With tens of thousands of laptops lost or stolen each year, it is important that customers have the most advanced solution available to protect their data,” said Shekhar Agrawal, Director Enterprise & Verticals -
The McAfee Endpoint Encryption software (formerly SafeBoot Encryption) uses powerful encryption and access control to prevent unauthorized access to data. A key feature of the Endpoint Encryption is its full-disk encryption, which ensures that information remains secure on mobile devices. This solution offers a number of additional features, including file and folder encryption, synchronized password changes and centralized management. Endpoint Encryption also includes reporting and auditing capabilities to meet industry and government compliance requirements, helping to reduce the risks associated with a highly mobile workforce. This solution can seamlessly integrate with the existing infrastructure allowing a user-friendly solution for customer security.
“The OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian provides a new dimension to enhancing the user authentication of McAfee Data Protection products,” said Frank Jorissen, Vice President international business development with McAfee’s Data Protection Business Unit. “While McAfee already supports the widest range and variety of authentication devices available on the market, this card has truly unique features. The NLG behaves as a remotely controlled ‘ignition key’ for laptops. When lost or stolen, a remote administrator can wipe critical user keys and force the laptop to reboot to the pre-boot logon screen, keeping all data totally beyond compromise.”
