Downturn in the economy has made the travel industry look for a new set of flyers. Now that the corporates are flying less, the latest trend is to focus on women and children.

While children have caught the fancy of marketing teams in airlines and travel sector for sometime now, the focus on women travellers is catching up. And with the International Women’s Day around, what better way to begin.

Jet offer

Private sector carrier Jet Airways is already running its ‘Celebrating Womanhood’ campaign which includes a 10 per cent discount on base fares for all ladies who book tickets on its portal between March 1 and March 15. The offer was to culminate on March 8 (Women’s Day), but was extended on Friday, citing “popular demand”.

The carrier’s lady travellers booking tickets through the airline’s portal between March 1 and April 30 stand to win 10 domestic and international round trip tickets, respectively, per week, over two months.

While the carrier does not maintain separate data on the number of women flyers, of its frequent flyers, at least 25 per cent are women, said Jet Airways’ spokesperson.
