The demand for a probe into the on-time performance (OTP) mechanism by Indigo resulted in a war of words between Spicejet and Indigo.

Spicejet launched a protest against the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s (DGCA) decision to appoint a committee to review the mechanism that determines the OTP of an airline.

As of date, Spicejet has recorded the best on-time performance at the Delhi airport and Jet Airways tops the ranking in Mumbai.

However, Indigo has questioned the mechanism by which the OTP rankings are determined. So, the DGCA created a committee after receiving complaints from airlines like Indigo to look into the OTP mechanism.

Indigo in its compliant to the DGCA said the mechanism is prone to manipulations and is faulty, after which a committee was formed to see if the mechanism can be improvised further.

However, Spicejet CMD Ajay Singh met the DGCA and expressed concern over the complaint and creation of the committee stating that the mechanism was not faulty.

Responding to Spicejet’s allegations, Indigo came out with a statement that the airline has provided evidence of the discrepancy in the OTP data and that the manual recording of the OTP data is prone to manipulation.

Indigo in the statement also stated that if the data was genuine then the airlines had reason to oppose a fair probe.
