The telecom ministry has issued notices to mobile operator Aircel asking why its telecoms licenses in three zones should not be cancelled as it had failed to meet network roll out requirements, a government official told reporters on Wednesday.
The government official, who declined to be named, did not give details of the zones.
A spokeswoman for Aircel could not be immediately reached for comments.
The telecom ministry had previously issued similar "show-cause" notices to Etisalat's and Sistema's Indian mobile joint ventures and Idea Cellular for not meeting requirements in some of telecoms zones.
Companies are given 60 days to reply to such notices.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had recommended to the ministry to cancel a total 69 telecoms licences of companies for failing to meet network roll out requirements.
