Air India is flying into its platinum jubilee year today. Official celebrations were launched to mark the 75th anniversary of Air India in Mumbai, reports CNBC-TV18.

In addition to Air India's 75th anniversary celebrations, this will be the year when it will be merged with Indian Airlines. Aviation Minister Praful Patel said that he is confident the merger will come through by March 2007.
The minister also said that while he is not implementing any entry barriers, the business plans of all the interested players will be properly checked.
