Hon. Union Minister for Civil Aviation Shri Praful Patel today flaged off Air India Express’ inaugural flight on the route Mumbai-Nagpur-Dubai-Nagpur-Mumbai at an impressive function held at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur.

The Flight from Nagpur will depart at 13.30 hrs arriving in Dubai at 15.40 hrs (LT). From Dubai the flight will leave at 16.30 hrs (LT) arriving Nagpur at 21.25 hrs. The flights are schedule thrice a week on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation (Independent Charge) said “Nagpur has become an important city with respect to logistics, because of its favourable geographical location. With this new route, passengers from Vidharbha region, Bhopal, Indore, Madhya Pradesh and Northern Andhra Pradesh will no longer have to go to Mumbai and Delhi”.

Nagpur logistically has become an important city because of its favourable geographical location. Air India Express hopes to tap into not only the Nagpur market but also the areas around it comprising Vidharbha region, Bhopal, Indore, Madhya Pradesh and Northern Andhra Pradesh. This is in line with Air India Express’s policy of connecting to remote areas of the country with destinations in gulf and South East Asia.

Air India Express will initially start with three flights a week which would be gradually increased depending on demand.

“Air India will make Nagpur its cargo hub in near future owing to its strategic location.  Air India is also going to undertake its conversion of passenger aircraft into freighter aircraft in Nagpur to set the pace for Air India’s cargo business. The launch of Air India Express’ new route is a welcome step” Said Mr. V Thulasidas, Chairman and Managing Director National Aviation Company of India Limited.

With the addition of these new flights the total number of flights operated per week by Air India Express will be 108. Air India Express flights operate with new generation B737-800 aircraft, in all-economy-class-configuration.
