Oman Air has signed a firm contract with Airbus for five new aircraft from the A330 Family. The order is for three A330-300s and two A330-200s. No engine choice has been made.

These aircraft will provide additional capacity on Oman Air's regional and international routes from the airlines base in the Sultanate of Oman to Europe and the Far East.

Oman Air said the decision was based on the aircraft's operational efficiency and its leading standards of passenger comfort.

"Our decision to buy the Airbus A330 all came down to the suitability of the aircraft with our long terms strategy to operate an efficient and reliable fleet with proven operating costs. We also wanted to provide our customers with an aircraft which has the most modern and comfortable cabin environment in its class", said Ziad Al-Haremi, Oman Air CEO

"The A330 is the aircraft of choice for many operators, and we are delighted Oman Air is one of these. The A330 will help Oman Air in their plans to grow services and it'll help them do it using the aircraft with the lowest operating costs in its class but also the aircraft which offers excellent flexibility for a wide range of routes structures", said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer Customers.

The A330 is the unquestioned current leader in its class, with a commanding market share and a continually expanding operator base. Its proven record of superior economics and passenger comfort provides the operator with a significant competitive advantage in the market today.

With over 1,200 orders and a backlog which has grown to over 370 aircraft, the A330/A340 Family has become the industry standard in the 250 to 375 seat category. In airline evaluations the A330/A340 Family invariably wins favour for operational efficiency and passenger comfort.

All A330 and A340 family aircraft benefit from Airbus' unique cockpit and operational commonality which helps shorten training times for flight crews transitioning from one Airbus aircraft to another, as well as providing streamlined maintenance procedures and reduced spare parts holdings.

Airbus is an EADS company.
