Dr Reddy's re-focusing on research
Dr Reddy's is stepping-up work in its research shop. The company has even put the development of its 'Red Heart Pill' on the fast track, reports CNCB-TV18.
Discovery research that's where Dr Anji Reddy belongs and despite setbacks in the past, Dr Anji Reddy's commitment to new drug discovery has not waned. Dr Reddy's is moving fast on its research for Polypill,a combination drug that treats hypertension and cardiac disorder together.
Dr Reddy's is currently holding talks for funding of the Red Heart Pill and expects to launch the drug in India in the next 12 to 18 months. Besides the research pipeline of new molecules is set to increase.
"Out of the current pipeline, which is about five, we have got four compounds , what that means is that we have started regulatory work for toxicology in animals here and it will go to phase one trails in the next 10 months. Apart from this, we will add three molecules every year. And in three years, we will have 20 molecules in various stages of development," said Dr Anji Reddy, Chairman of Dr Reddy's Labs.
It's key anti-diabetes drug, Balaglitazone, being developed with Rheoscience. It is expected to complete phase two clinical trails shortly. Dr Reddy's has also started research on biotechnology products.
It hopes to launch a few monoclonal antibodies in India and later file for their international regulatory approvals.
"We are developing MAB drugs, the first product is Rituximab and it's going through a clinical development. We should be able to launch the product in six months," said Reddy.
While Dr Reddy's will concentrate on first in class compounds, its focus will also be analog molecules. The company will also allocate at least 10 % of its research funding on developing biotech drugs.
