Power sector regulator CERC on Monday said Tata Power should be compensated for the increase in imported fuel cost for 4,000 MW Mundra ultra mega power project in Gujarat.

Reliance Power has informed that the first unit of 660 MW out of the 3960 MW Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) being developed at Sasan, Madhya Pradesh by the Company's wholly owned subsidiary, Sasan Power Limited, has been successfully commissioned.

With the 3960 MW Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) now generating power, JP Chalasani, CEO, Reliance Power, says the tariff at which the company will be selling to seven states (Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand) is significantly lower at Rs 1.30 per unit.

The bidding norms for ultra mega power plants, has run into fresh hurdle with lenders. Banks have written to the power ministry expressing their concerns over proposed provision which they say will disincentivise lenders from investing in the power sector, reports Sumit Jha of CNBC-TV18.
