The Lok Sabha has passed a bill on sugarcane pricing today. The ministry says that fair and remunerative price (FRP) will benefit the farmers. They also say that the cane farming or the cane prices should include the harvest and transport cost.

The government plans to end the logjam on sugar pricing by scrapping clause 3(B) of the Sugarcane Control Order, 1966, which makes it mandatory for the state governments to bear the difference between the fair and remunerative price (FRP) and the State Advisory Price (SAP).

Farmers in the region of Uttar Pradesh have been demanding to be paid Rs 280 per quintal of cane while the government had fixed the fair and remunerative price (FRP) at Rs 130 per quintal while the UP governments state advisory price (SAP) stands at Rs 165 per quintal.
